Austin, Texas-Passenger traffic at Austin Airport has returned to pre-pandemic levels, and the long security team has disappointed the flyers for months.

To solve this problem, on Monday, airport leaders opened three new general inspection lines at the 2E checkpoint. This checkpoint is the fourth checkpoint at Austin-Bergstrom International Airport.

Chief Operating Officer Ghizlane Badawi said: “We are looking at the passenger experience from a holistic perspective and are focusing on improving the passenger experience, optimizing our usable area at the Barbara Jordan terminal and adding additional infrastructure to accommodate growth.” Airport officials.

In November, the Austin City Council approved $1.5 million to prepare a new checkpoint. It is expected to be ready after Christmas or New Year.

"Since this summer, we have seen tremendous growth in AUS," Badawi said. "We are one of the fastest-growing airports. This checkpoint will help us have the ability to screen more passengers and enhance the passenger experience."

Flyers with TSA PreCheck or CLEAR will still be checked at checkpoint 1 or 2W.

The new checkpoint is part of the airport's overall growth plan, which calls for the optimization of the Barbara Jordan terminal to meet immediate growth needs. In the future, it is planned to display additional gates and ticket counters before the construction of another terminal and additional runways at the airport.

The airport had its busiest day ever in October, when more than 35,000 flyers were screened.
